Dec. 2018 Julie’s review of The Bottle Imp of Bright House, by Tom Llewellyn

The bottle imp of Bright House

first of all, YES! to the drawings by Gris Grimly.  Really set the stage there!

but the truth is, I COULD be a little more pleased. Just a tad, though.

It might be just me….maybe it was a fantastic read but it’s never enough for me, for me, for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could kind of picture this actor playing the lead character (except he’s an adult now)

In summary, I would probably ask the author why he didn’t take the book a step further. This is a very fast-paced and funny story that looked to solve a crisis, but I rather expected the main characters to try and discover loopholes and counterattacks much earlier on.  On another note, this book is a reboot of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story, The Bottle Imp.  So, maybe I’ll have to read the original and see how it compares?

Dec. 2018 Mary’s review of The Nameless City Series, by Faith Erin Hicks

The Nameless City The stone heart The nameless city. 3, The divided earth

because the main character is a strong and fast girl who runs on roof tops. So I substituted Rat for Violet Parr because she is also fast and strong.

The series of three was so good I read it in 24 hours and had to beg friends to read faster to get it. The books were highly enjoyable. The main characters were so easy to love and relate to. Every teen would / should drop their screens or devices to read this wonderful book. l finished the last book in math class.

Dec. 2018 Madelynne’s review of The Nameless City (1,2,3), by Faith Erin Hicks

The Nameless City The stone heart The nameless city. 3, The divided earth

How I’m feeling about these books:

A song I’d choose to go along with this book is:

My thoughts about these book:

These were probably some of the best books I’ve ever read! They are so heartfelt and strong. There is a little violence and some blood in these book, but don’t let that keep you from reading them! They are graphic novels. 1. The nameless city, 2. The stone heart, and 3. Divided earth. Everyone can relate in some way to one of the characters. They are suspenseful stories that show a meaning that family, and friendship are the strongest weapons out there. There is also some ironic historical fiction-ish stuff in there if you know where to look. I guess what I’m trying to say is: I LOVE THESE BOOKS, EVERYONE SHOULD READ THEM! 500,000,000,000,000 Stars out of 5 stars!

Dec. 2018 Madelynne’s review of The Adventures of Silas Freethorn, by DJ Renner

The adventures of Silas Freehorn : a Puritan tale

It was a thrilling tale of adventure, betrayal, romance, heartbreak, and finding oneself. The author of this book went deep to explain Silas’s inner feelings. After a while you start to wonder if he will ever get “home”. It is a beautifully written book that I loved. It was so good I now know it by heart! I suggest this book for readers of all ages and it fits in many different genres, historical fiction, action, and romance.

Nov. 2018 Jack’s review of You Wouldn’t Want to be a Medieval Knight, by Fiona MacDonald

You wouldn't want to be a medieval knight! : armor you'd rather not wear

I love this book! I love how it tells the story as you the reader being the knight. I like the hilarious illustrations too. It makes you really not want to be a medieval knight. Plus it’s teaching you how to behave as one and what to look out for. Of course that stuff wouldn’t really come in handy. But it gives you a kind of extra history lesson about that time period. I think they really executed the story well. This book makes you really NOT want to be a medieval knight!
